Barefoot to Bigfoot!

Making the move from Primary to Secondary School can be quite a challange.

Dawlish Community College already works with local Primary Schools, inviting year 6 children along to the school in the summer term, but this year we decided to do something extra.

We arranged for Kate Mears from Bigfoot Theatre to work with Caroline Littler, Student Welfare Officer at Dawlish Community College.

Between them they provided three after school taster Drama Workshops at the Community College, where children were able to;

  • Take part in fun games and activities
  • Make new friends who would be at Dawlish with them in September
  • Consider how they felt about the exciting move
  • Tackle their concerns about the Transition

As you can see from the photos it was well attended and good fun. As Caroline said,

“The Bigfoot transition drama workshops at Dawlish Community College have been a great success with students from various primaries taking part. It was an excellent opportunity to make new friends and to confront worries about moving up to the college in September.

The final workshop was well attended despite an evacuation from one of the primaries – one student even walked barefoot to be here!”

Don't Stop Me Now

The workshops were free, funded by ‘Don’t Stop Me Now! This initiative encourages children to join in after school and holiday clubs.

And the key lessons …………………?
